SLICK ROCK FALLS (NC)

Slick Rock Falls is located in the Pisgah National Forest, in Transylvania County. Slick Rock Falls flows on Slick Rock Creek over an overhanging bluff. At times the falls will dry to a near-trickle, depending on the amount of recent rainfall. Slick Rock is named for the slick rocks at the top and bottom of the falls. Before becoming part of the national forest, a cattle trail crossed Slick Rock Creek near the top of the falls. Occasionally, a stray animal would be carried over the falls. To get to Slick Rock Falls, you must travel 1.1 miles on a dirt road that I do not recommend for inexperienced riders. The trail that leads to Slick Rock Falls continues to Looking Glass Rock. That is a favorite spot for rock climbers and a federally-protected breeding area for peregrine falcons.
